‘Naps’ Past Students Association celebrates Dr. Jamwant Maharaj

The Naparima College Association of Past Students is celebrating one of their own, former Chemistry teacher, Dr. Jamwant Maharaj, who has just been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by The University of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr. Maharaj has guided thousands of students, instilling in them a passion for academic excellence, a strong sense of discipline, and a deep pride in their cultural heritage.

“We salute Dr. Maharaj for his lifelong dedication, his quiet strength, and his unwavering commitment to excellence. Hats off to a true educator, mentor, and Naps legend,” the Association stated in a media release.

Mr Maharaj’s legacy at Naparima College continues to shine brightly, having played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many who have gone on to become doctors, engineers, scientists, and leaders in their respective fields.

“For decades, Dr. Maharaj has been a towering figure in education—his name synonymous with excellence in Chemistry throughout San Fernando and beyond. As one of the foremost lessons teachers in the region, he has guided thousands of students to academic success, instilling not only knowledge but discipline, curiosity, and confidence,” the Association stated.

Dr Maharaj’s influence went far beyond the classroom.

“He helped build and sustain a legacy of scientific distinction, shaping generations of Naps men who would go on to excel in medicine, engineering, and research. Yet, amid his many achievements, he has remained humble, compassionate, and deeply connected to his roots—always a steadfast supporter of the Indian Cultural Club and a true embodiment of service and pride in culture,” stated the Assocaition.

Known for his humility, dedication, and deep commitment to his students, Dr. Maharaj remains, without a doubt, a true Naparima College legend.
