Opposition MP Marvin Gonzales has criticized government’s response to panic on Friday gone when reports suggested that the US would launch a military strike on neighbouring Venezuela.

Mr Gonzales posed a question to Defence Minister Wayne Sturge about the issue on Friday in Parliament, but the minister declined to answer claiming it was against the public interest.

The Arouca/Lopinot MP, who was speaking on the CNC3 morning programme on Monday, said given the state of panic in the country the government should have acted responsibly and taken the opportunity to address the people and allay their fears.

Since then, Minister of Homeland Affairs Roger Alexander has said that social media was to blame for stoking fears and whipping up panic in the population.
