Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley has secured a third consecutive election victory, with her Barbados Labour Party (BLP) capturing all 30 seats in the House of Assembly.

State broadcaster CBC Barbados reported early Thursday that the ruling party completed a clean sweep at the polls, unseating opposition leader Ralph Thorne and reinforcing Mottley’s strong national support.

In her victory speech, Mottley pledged to tackle poverty and inequality.

“Our mission first and foremost is to stop poor people from being poor and to remove injustice wherever it exists, to create opportunities for people,” she told supporters clad in red.

The 60-year-old leader also announced that Friday would be observed as a public bank holiday and vowed to safeguard the country’s democracy
