Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Planning, Economic Affairs and Development, Kennedy Swaratsingh, has called for urgent climate action at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil.
Speaking at the High-Level Segment, Minister Swaratsingh delivered Trinidad and Tobago’s national statement, highlighting the impacts of rising sea levels, extreme weather, and shifting rainfall patterns on small island states.
He emphasized the need to move beyond negotiations to real, on-the-ground implementation of climate solutions.
The Minister also participated in a meeting of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), advocating for enhanced international support, adaptation finance, and resilient infrastructure for vulnerable islands.
Trinidad and Tobago is advancing initiatives such as electric vehicles, solar water heaters, green hydrogen, and participation in carbon markets, while calling for stronger international cooperation to ensure a fair and just transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.
