Security cooperation between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago resulted in the seizure of 1,660 kilograms of cocaine in Portugal.
A statement from the US Embassy says for several months, agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, TTPS Vetted Unit, Transnational Organized Crime Unit and the Seaport Cooperation Project worked together on a bi-lateral maritime narcotics trafficking case.
In early June, a sailboat laden with cocaine valued at US$25 million left Trinidad waters.
This was intercepted on June 14th by the Portuguese Navy and the Portuguese Judicial Police off the Azores Archipelago.
Three foreign nationals were arrested.
The seizure was part of Operation “Vikings,” a complex operation involving DEA agents in Trinidad and Tobago, Portugal, Spain, and Denmark; and several law enforcement agencies in Portugal.
