The Children’s Authority is seeking to clarify reports that the Cyril Ross Children’s Home is being closed because it failed to receive a residence licence.

The Authority says in early 2025 it was received notification from the St. Vincent de Paul Society that it would voluntarily cease operations as it was unable to meet all the criteria necessary for full licensure.

In a statement it says, “The Authority extended considerable efforts through stakeholder engagement to
explore opportunities that might have supported the continued operation of the Home. However, despite these collaborative efforts, the St. Vincent de Paul Society determined that continuing operations was not viable given the challenges they faced.”

According to the Authority, the home held a Conditional Licence up to the voluntary end of operations on December 31st 2025.

It adds that all three children who were residents at the Home at the time of closure have been relocated to safe and appropriate placements.
