For the first time, there will be 24 hour tactical police and canine deployment at the Piarco International Airport.
This was revealed by Police Commissioner Allister Gueverro during a media briefing at the Airport this afternoon.
Mr Gueverro said this initiative is meant to detect offenses immediately and deter persons who may want to commit any type of heinous acts against citizens or visitors.
He added that the presence of the K9 unit is meant to tackle narcotics trafficking.
This initiative is effective immediately and will be done in collaboration with airport security, with uniformed and plain clothes tactical officers.
Also speaking was Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander, who said this is just one of many measures to be used to secure the facility for both citizens and visitors.
He also commended this stand taken by the TTPS and warned the criminal element that “enough is enough”.
