“Carnival in the Sky,” a collaborative kite-flying festival for the Easter weekend, has officially begun with an exhibition at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah.

The event is a joint effort by the National Carnival Commission, the Chinese Embassy, and the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, and highlights a cultural fusion of Chinese and local kite-making traditions, featuring Carnival-inspired designs.

NCC Chairman Peter Kanhai described the festival as a celebration of culture, creativity and strong diplomatic ties, noting that the rich history of Chinese kite-making blends seamlessly with Caribbean spirit and innovation.

He added that the initiative reflects more than 50 years of relations between both countries, while reaffirming the NCC’s support for events that preserve local traditions and encourage cultural exchange.

The free event continues throughout the Easter weekend at the Queen’s Park Savannah, with large, colourful kites expected to fill the skies.
