Janaya Clarke has been crowned the 2026 National Junior Calypso Monarch.
The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation, TUCO, says the finals were held on Monday at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain.
Clarke, who is homeschooled, captured the title with her performance of the calypso Role Models, emerging victorious after what TUCO described as an exciting and highly competitive show.
Second place went to Cayla Allen of Holy Name Convent, Port of Spain, with Man-Men Are Needed, while Khaleah Ramsey of Bishop’s High School in Tobago secured third place with Who Am I.
Kacique Wilson of Queen’s Royal College placed fourth with Identity, and Kurlise Bentham of the UTT Academy for the Performing Arts finished fifth with Shut Yuh Mouth.
TUCO congratulated all sixteen finalists, praising their lyrical depth, stage presence and thought-provoking messages, which the organisation says reflect the vibrancy of the next generation of calypsonians.
The organisation also thanked sponsors First Citizens and Smalta, along with parents, educators, arrangers, adjudicators and volunteers, for their role in the success of this year’s competition.
TUCO says the National Junior Calypso Monarch competition remains a key part of its mission to nurture young talent and preserve Trinidad and Tobago’s calypso heritage.
