US forces have seized another sanctioned oil tanker in the Caribbean, under Operation Southern Spear.
In a pre-dawn operation, the motor/tanker Veronica was apprehended without incident, after marines and soldiers were launched from the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford.
According the US Southern Command, the vessel was operating in defiance of President Trump’s quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean.
US authorities say “the only oil leaving Venezuela will be oil that is coordinated properly and lawfully”, as they re-emphasized their commitment to shutting down illicit maritime activity and restoring security in the Western Hemisphere.
