Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane tomorrow and will move near or just north of the Leeward Islands over the weekend.
Currently over the Atlantic Ocean, Erin’s winds have increased to near 95 km/h with higher gusts, and additional strengthening is expected.
The Hurricane Centre says sea swells generated by the storm will begin affecting portions of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend.
These are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
The T&T Met Service has noted that Erin does not pose any direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago.
Erin is the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season
