Former National Security Minister Gary Griffith is calling on Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro to “clear the air” over the 1,200 body cameras purchased during his tenure.
In a Facebook post this morning, Mr Griffith claimed the Commissioner described the devices as ineffective because officers can turn them on and off.
He said the explanation does not justify not using the cameras, adding that the delays raise concerns about police accountability.
Mr Griffith noted that standard law enforcement policy worldwide allows officers to deactivate body cameras in specific situations, including cases involving sexual assault victims, abused children, or confidential informants.
