Former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith says he supports the government’s proposal to create a localized police force for Tobago.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the plan, which would similar to Municipal Police units in Trinidad, during a Special Sitting of the Tobago House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Griffith told CNC3 that the move would free up the TTPS to deal with crime reduction measures, while the Tobago Police Unit would deal with monitoring the streets and traffic regulation.
He also praised the Prime Minister’s plans to refurnish police stations and other facilities in Tobago.
