Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe says the murder of Leroy Sifontis is part of an upsurge of crime in the area in recent months.

The Darsan Trace resident was shot and killed during an attempted robbery after boarding a taxi to go to work.

Dr Bodoe claims the police are strapped for resources and seem unable to apprehend criminals in a timely manner.

He adds that there is a pervasive sense of hopelessness amongst Fyzabad residents, as they worry about their safety on a daily basis.

He is calling on the National Security Minister to do more to support police at the Oropouche, Fyzabad and Siparia stations, thereby allowing them to apprehend criminals and prevent crime.

He also wants the Government to create more economic, sporting, cultural and other opportunities for constituents, to add to those already provided by local NGOs.
