Crowds have gathered for the funeral for singing legend Asha Bhosle.
She passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.
BBC News says her last rites are taking place on Monday at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, with full state honours.
The two-time Grammy nominee had a career spanning nearly eight decades and thousands of recordings.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief across India and beyond, with political leaders, musicians, actors and fans remembering her as one of the defining voices of Indian cinema.
Among them is actor Shah Rukh Khan, who wrote that Bhosle was “a talent that will outlive many” and that her “voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come”.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog, “An entire era… an incredible… a phenomenal, astounding, prodigious, presence … lost yesterday .. the iconic, legendary Asha Bhosle ji, has left us. In immense grief. Her versatility in giving life to every song she gave voice to .. gone to the heavens .. and has left us an entire encyclopaedia of eternal music. The body has left us .. but her soul shall remain forever with us. Her voice – the soul, shall ever be immortalised. In immense grief.”
