China’s former Agriculture Minister, Tang Renjian, has been sentenced to death, with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes worth nearly US$38 million.
The Asia News Network reported that the ruling that was issued on Sunday, also strips Mr Tang of all political rights and orders the confiscation of his assets.
The court found the former Minister abused his political positions between 2007 and 2024, to benefit others in exchange for cash and favors.
While the sentence may be commuted to life in prison after two years of good behavior, the court emphasized the scale of corruption caused major losses to the country.
Mr Tang confessed and cooperated with authorities, which earned him leniency.
