Fishermen and Friends of the Sea is commending Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for her decision to halt all fetes at the Brian Lara Stadium.

The group says the move finally addresses years of suffering by residents affected by excessive noise and disruption.

In a statement today, FFOS urged the Prime Minister to extend similar protections nationwide, highlighting ongoing issues at O2 Park in Chaguaramas and Nelson Mandela Park in Port of Spain, where loud events continue to disturb nearby communities and vulnerable groups.

The organisation is calling for designated entertainment zones in low-population areas to preserve culture while protecting residents’ rights.

Corporate Secretary Gary Aboud says culture and community can coexist—if noise rules are properly enforced.
