Fishermen and Friends of the Sea, or FFOS, is calling on the government to act against the rising epidemic of preventable diseases in Trinidad and Tobago.

The group warns that ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks are silently harming public health, contributing to diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

FFOS says hospitals are overflowing, and children are increasingly affected.

FFOS is urging Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to implement sugar taxes, mandatory front-of-pack warning labels, marketing restrictions to protect children, and incentives for healthier local foods.

The group says national wealth should never come at the expense of the nation’s health.
