A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck near the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e Sharif earlier today, killing at least 20 people and injuring hundreds.
Reuters reported that the quake, which hit at a depth of 28 kilometers, also caused significant damage to the city’s historic Blue Mosque.
Preliminary reports from the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority said 643 people were injured, with 25 in serious condition.
Rescue teams have been deployed, and hospitals are on standby and the United Nations has also joined the relief efforts, .
