Farley Augustine has promised accountability, as he was today sworn-in for his second term as THA Chief Secretary.

He returns to office after the TPP recorded a 15-0 victory in the THA Elections on Monday.

During a ceremony held on Thursday, oaths were also taken Niall George as Presiding Officer, Niketa Percy as Deputy Presiding Officer, and Dr Faith Brebnor as Deputy Chief Secretary.

Additionally, the TTP’s 14 other elected candidates were sworn-in as assemblymen, while Petal-Ann Roberts, Ackel Franklyn and Adanna Joseph-Wallace became Councillors.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Augustine said a media conference will be held at 10am today to outline how they intend to install systems of accountability and transparency.

He also welcomed proposed amendments to the THA Act which will, among other things, increase the number of secretaries.

He lamented that for far too long, many THA divisions have been holding down portfolios that would normally be handled by multiple ministries in Trinidad.

He said a new division in the future is the Division for Legal and Intergovernmental Affairs, which will be the THA’s equivalent to the Attorney General.

The 13th Inauguration Ceremony was presided over by President Christine Kangaloo and attended by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles-Robinson, among others.
