Education Minister Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath is calling on school leaders to pair discipline and fairness with compassion as they guide students toward their full potential.

Speaking at a sensitisation session on the Judges’ Rules for Children, he told school supervisors and secondary principals that clarity and consistency are essential in handling disciplinary matters.

Dr. Dowlath said the Judges’ Rules help administrators know when to manage an issue internally and when to involve School-Oriented Police Officers, while also respecting the role of parents and guardians.

Friday’s session was facilitated by the Children Court, which outlined the legal framework for dealing with incidents involving minors.

The aim was to strengthen principals’ understanding of school-based investigations, their authority, and the importance of transparent, fair processes in keeping schools safe.
