The death toll from a brutal police raid in Rio de Janeiro has risen to 132, following Tuesday’s operation targeting the Red Command drug gang.
According to BBC News, the toll was higher than initially reported, as additional bodies were discovered in a wooded area where suspects, allegedly wearing camouflage, clashed with officers.
The raid also resulted in the seizure of 90 rifles and more than a ton of drugs.
While officials are defending the operation as a success, activists and local residents are questioning the use of excessive force and condemned the operation, with some calling it a massacre.
