The chicken pox vaccine is being offered to prison officers, as part of a proactive health initiative involving the Health Ministry.
Today, officials began administering the vaccine to eligible and interested officers at the T&T Prison Service Sports, Recreational and Cultural Club.
This exercise is scheduled to continue tomorrow, with a second dose to be administered in March.
It comes amid recent concerns regarding the spread of the virus within the prison system.
Since November 2025, 72 inmates and seven officers have contracted chicken pox.
The Prison Service says the cases are strictly confined to the Maximum Security Prison, with no cases reported at any other correctional facility.
Present at today’s event was Prisons Commissioner, Carlos Coraspe, who described the vaccination programme as a critical step in safeguarding not only the officers, but also their families and colleagues.
