The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCCJ) has reinstated the manslaughter convictions on two former Belizean police officers in a case involving a death in custody.
Officers Hallet King and Leonard Nunes were convicted on a single count of manslaughter for the unlawful death of Hibert Soltz while he was in police custody.
The men were initially sentenced to nine months imprisonment, but appealed their decision, alleging that photographic evidence used in the trial was prejudicial.
The State appealed and the CCJ has reinstated the manslaughter conviction after ruling that the photorraps were entitled to use them in their consideration of a verdict.
The case has been sent back to the Court of Appeal to determine the appropriate sentencing for the reinstated convictions.
