Venezuela protest

The Catholic Commission for Social Justice is sounding the alarm over rising tensions in the Southern Caribbean and what it calls a worsening humanitarian crisis.

In a statement today, the CCSJ joined the Antilles Episcopal Conference and regional theologians in urging leaders to keep the Caribbean a zone of peace, amid growing geopolitical friction and increased naval activity.

The group also expressed deep concern over Trinidad and Tobago’s planned mass deportations of Venezuelan migrants, warning that actions must respect human dignity and international law.

The CCSJ further condemned recent extrajudicial killings of suspected drug couriers at sea, calling them a violation of the right to life.

It is urging government to restore a proper refugee-protection system, suspend deportations, and re-engage international agencies — insisting that peace, justice, and mercy must guide the region forward.
