In observance of World Diabetes Day, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is urging governments, workplaces, health providers, and individuals to tackle rising diabetes rates under the global theme, “Diabetes and Wellbeing.”
Diabetes continues to pose a serious threat across the Caribbean, with nearly 12% of adults affected and high levels of obesity, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diets contributing to the crisis.
CARPHA’s Executive Director, Dr. Lisa Indar, highlighted regional training initiatives for healthcare providers and plans to launch online courses to improve diabetes management.
CARPHA encourages prevention through healthy diets, exercise, avoiding tobacco, and regular screenings, while stressing self-care for those living with diabetes.
