A new policy brief from the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is warning of major economic risks for the region as the United States rolls out new tariff and immigration policies.

According to CANARI, the shifting global trade landscape and tightening US immigration controls are already reducing job opportunities for Caribbean citizens and increasing uncertainty for regional economies.

The brief urges Caribbean governments to move urgently to diversify exports, reduce dependence on external food and energy supplies, and boost support for youth entrepreneurship.

It also calls for stronger regional cooperation and updated labour and education policies to help citizens build skills in fast-growing areas such as agro-industries and artificial intelligence.
