Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says the violent incident in Bon Accord between rival Tobago Peoples Party (TPP) and Peoples National Movement (PNM) supporters is unfortunate and unusual for Tobago.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Mr Augustine acknowledged that Tobago’s political climate has become tenser in recent years, and he said this was down to wider global trends.

He described the voting process as smooth and efficient, and revealed that he misplaced his ID card.

The TPP leader said voters in Tobago are concerned with employment, environmental issues, and having close and consistent representation.

Meanwhile, TPP deputy political leader Dr Faith Brebnor urged citizens to be disciplined and reminded Tobago voters about the need to peacefully coexist after the election.

She said the injured woman w has been treated and is doing well, and the TPP’s lawyers are looking into the matter.

Dr Brebnor said voting was going smoothly and said no incidents of indiscipline or misbehavior has been reported.

Earlier on Monday, the Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro says there have been no reports of electoral violence or discrepancies during the Tobago House of Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters in Speyside, Mr Guevarro said that the voting process has been smooth and there have been no negative reports coming made to police.

He chose not to comment on election violence in Bon Accord on Sunday where PNM supporters skirmished with TPP supporters.
