AQI level for Port of Spain at Orange or “Sensitive Groups”

Air quality in Port of Spain is currently listed as Orange or “Sensitive Groups” according to the EMA’s Air Quality Index.

The EMA says there is “increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms in sensitive groups including older adults, children, and people with respiratory ailments and allergies; aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in people with heart or lung disease.”

It also advises that “People with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and people with respiratory ailments and allergies should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.”

The AQI also shows that, as at 10am today, air quality in Mayaro, Toco, Point Lisas, San Fernando, are all Yellow or “Moderate”.

The Met Service says the Saharan dust concentration in the atmosphere is mild to moderate, with a continuing reduction to mild concentrations from today and into the weekend.
