Attorney General John Jeremie says Government is moving to introduce ‘zones of special operations’ in a bid to fight crime.
The initiative will see a focus on “hot spots”.
The AG explained further during a media conference today.
According to Mr Jeremie, the Special Zones of Operations Bill will also build on recent results in crime fighting during the ongoing State of Emergency.
The SoE is expected to end on January 31st 2026.
Also during the conference, Mr Jeremie was asked for his determination on recent US strikes on suspected drug traffickers in the region.
His response? That external advice states the strikes were in line with international law.
The AG also commented on recent backlash relating to increased fines and penalties for road traffic offences.
He says while they remain resolute in tackling the “lawlessness” on the nation’s roads, they will do so in a humane way.
Government will advance an amendment to impose a system requiring officers to give a mandatory warning for certain traffic offences.
