“Titanic” prop plank sold for over $718,000

The floating piece of wood that kept Rose alive in the “Titanic” movie has been sold for $718,750.

The sale was made during an auction of props and costumes owned by restaurant and resort chain Planet Hollywood.

According to Heritage Auctions, the prop was based on a complete piece of debris salvaged from the 1912 Titanic tragedy.

In the 1997 blockbuster movie, Jack (played by Leonardo Di Caprio), insists that the panel was only big enough for Rose (played by Kate Winslet).

He later dies in the freezing Atlantic, with his body falling into the depths of the ocean.

Since then, there has been much argument as to whether or not the two could have fit on the wooden panel.

Years later, “Titanic” director James Cameron put an end to the debate, saying Jack had to die according to the script.

Going back to the auction, other props offered up for sale were: the whip from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” which sold for $525,000, a Spider-man suit worn by Toby Maguire which sold for $125,000, and an axe used by Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” which also sold for $125,000.
