Beaches in western Tobago to be reopened on a phased basis

Several beaches on the western end of Tobago will remain closed and reopen on a phased basis.

This decision was announced by the Office of the THA’s Chief Secretary following a meeting of stakeholders.

The meeting was convened following Friday’s incident in which a British tourist was bitten by a shark at Turtle Beach.

While the beaches in the western end of the island are being monitored, the Chief Secretary says beaches in the north east and east remain open.

With regard to the victim, Deputy Chief Secretary Dr Faith B. Yisrael says he is in stable condition and warded in the ICU of the Scarborough General Hospital.

She says reports from the medical team also indicate that his appendages have been preserved, with a comprehensive status report to be provided soon.
