National flag at half-mast today as former CJ is laid to rest

The national flag is being flown at half-mast today, for the official funeral of former Chief Justice Michael de la Bastide.

The National Security Ministry this morning gave the advice to all state and non-state agencies and all T&T diplomatic missions abroad.

Mr de la Bastide’s funeral takes place at the Church of the Assumption in Maraval from 10am – he passed away on March 30th.

The Ministry says to get to half-mast, the flag must first be hoisted to the top of the staff for an instant and then lowered to half-mast.

Before lowering the flag at the end of the day, it should be raised again to the top of the staff.

Other flags on the same stand of poles should also be at half-mast or not flown at all, while flags of flag of foreign nations should not be flown at half-mast, unless their country is also in mourning.
