Naparima MP again urges PM, Opposition Leader to retire from politics

Naparima MP Rodney Charles is stepping up his calls for the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader to join him in leaving politics.

In a press statement streamed today, Mr Charles reminded of his earlier vow not to contest the next General Election due to his age.

He adds that older heads need to make way for younger minds.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is 74, while Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar will turn 72 on April 22nd.

Mr Charles says globally and regionally, leaders are trending towards being under 50 years of age, and warns that if T&T does not proactively prepare the younger generation, they will be unprepared for the future.

Regarding the UNC itself, the Naparima MP says it is necessary that the internal election be held when constitutionally due.
