PCA investigators to wear body cameras

Investigators for the Police Complaints Authority will wear body cameras when carrying out their enquiries.

Director David West says this will move the PCA towards gathering evidence by digital means, and also allow for a more transparent investigative process.

Members of the Investigations Unit will wear the body cameras, especially during interviews with witnesses.

The cameras will also be used in the collection of evidence at crime scenes.

The PCA says the data will be captured, and according to the protocols, will ensure compliance with privacy and evidentiary requirements.

The Police Complaints Authority is an independent body set up by Parliament to investigate criminal offences involving police officers, police corruption and serious police misconduct, and other related matters.
