Geologist: Officials reaching out to authorities over Sangre Chiquito fire

A call is being made for an action plan to extinguish a fire at the Sangre Chiquito Recreation Ground caused by an ignited lignite bed.

According to geologist Xavier Moonan, lignite is a low-grade form of coal and this burning of lignite started with a bushfire.

He said, in a Facebook post, that sulphuric gases are being released during the combustion of the lignites and are negatively affecting the families in the vicinity of the recreation ground.

Mr Moonan said the Hunters Search and Rescue Team would be reaching out the Fire Service, EMA and the area’s regional corporation to address the matter.

Commenting on the situation, the Hunters Search and Rescue Team called for urgent action to be taken.
