A 21-year-old man charged in connection with a high speed chase and marijuana seizure in Sangre Grande over the weekend has been granted $550,000 bail.

Clay Joshua Ali, a mechanic from North Eastern Settlement, appeared virtually before Master Shabiki Cazabon for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous driving, four breaches of a traffic light, one breach of a no entry sign and failure of comply with the lawful directives of a police constable.

As part of his bail conditions, Ali is ordered to report to his local police twice a week and is confined to an 11pm to 6am daily curfew.

Around 11:45pm on March 9th, officers were conducting a roadblock at Tumpuna Road North, Arima, when a silver Nissan Wingroad turned upon seeing the exercise.

The vehicle sped off east along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, leading to a pursuit.

At a roadblock mounted in response, the Wingroad rammed one of the police vehicles and later crashed into a wall at Katwaroo Trace, Sangre Grande.

Two suspects escaped and packets containing 24.8 kilograms of marijuana were later found inside the vehicle.
