A fire has claimed the life of a one-year-old girl.

The blaze occurred around 11am at the two storey house on Soogrim Trace Extension, Endeavour, Chaguanas.

One-year-old Harley Persad was asleep in a bedroom on the upstairs floor.

Her parents, Hermant and Leandra Persad, attempted to rescue her, but without success.

Both sustained burns about their bodies and were subsequently taken for medical treatment.

The Fire Service, Police Service, DMO and other agencies were on the scene and investigations are continuing.
