Students treated after chewing ‘contaminated’ gum

Several students at the Maloney Government Primary School fell ill yesterday after chewing contaminated gum.

103.1FM spoke with a police official who said the students complained of feeling unwell after chewing gum they received from another student.

An ambulance was subsequently called in, as were police.

The gum was reportedly in a container and the contamination is suspected to be tobacco, however tests are needed to confirm.

The TTPS official adds that the gum did not come from the school’s cafeteria, but was instead brought by the student, who presumably did not know it was contaminated.

Police are continuing to treat with the situation.

103.1FM News has also reached out to the Education Minister for a comment and is awaiting a response.
