Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says information is the reason for the holdup in processing insurance settlements for the Paria Diving Tragedy.
Today, Dr Rowley met with sole survivor Christopher Boodram, as well as the families of the four divers who died after being sucked into a Paria pipeline in February 2022.
Dr Rowley said Paria has insurance coverage for incidents like this, and that some correspondence has already been exchanged between attorneys for some of the families and Paria or its insurers.
He elaborated further during a post-cabinet briefing this afternoon.
Dr Rowley also said while he cannot interfere in this process, he has made it clear to Paria that he wants it concluded quickly and fairly.
Dr Rowley also responded to concerns expressed by the families after the meeting today, namely their view that some matters remain unaddressed and the fact that the Paria Board is still intact.
