Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended Easter greetings, saying the occasion is a time for reflection, renewal and rejoicing.

“I extend my very best wishes to the Christian community for a joyous and sanctified Easter 2024.

This is a time of deep reflection, renewal, and rejoicing at the sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

It represents the ultimate fulfilment of God’s sacred covenant of redemption to mankind in the Holy Bible:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

This promised salvation reassures us that all the evil, inhumanity, destruction, and death in this world can be conquered through God’s abiding Grace.

This year, Easter finds our nation in the throes of a terrifying, unprecedented crime and violence wave that threatens our very social stability and progress.

In these darkest of times, we must more than ever embrace the great teachings of the Saviour, in abiding faith and hope.

I therefore urge all Christians celebrating this holy season to pray that our beloved nation be delivered from evil.

May the inhumanity that ensconces Trinidad and Tobago be washed away in the light of Jesus’s redeeming love and salvation.

May Christ’s living example of faith, goodness, humility, unconditional love, compassion, peace, tolerance, and forgiveness for all always inspire us to embrace and emulate Him in our paths to salvation.
