Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on the Government to provide counseling and compensation for the parents who recently lost their newborns at the Port of Spain General Hospital’s Neonatal ICU.

11 babies have died of bacterial blood infections.

At a media conference today, she said the depression being faced by these parents, can derail these their lives and destroy their families.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar also called for the Couva Children’s Hospital to be opened immediately.

Now called the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility, it was initially envisioned as a paediatric facility by the UNC Government.
