Hurricane Tammy moving away from islands

Hurricane Tammy is now headed for the open ocean after spending the weekend along several Caribbean Islands.

According to Fox Weather “The strongest winds in the tiny core of the storm brushed Guadeloupe in the eastern Caribbean and went over Barbuda, the most northeastern island in the Leeward chain.” adding that “It will take a few more days for Tammy’s moisture tail to clear all of the islands.”

There is high confidence that Tammy will continue north for the next couple of days, but by Tuesday, the future track becomes uncertain.

The National Hurricane Centre says “At 1100 AM AST Tammy is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h) and this general motion is expected today. A turn toward the north is expected tonight, followed by a north-northeast or northeast motion on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph (130 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles
(220 km).
