Work is expected to start at 10am today to address burning lignite at the Sangre Chiquito Recreation Ground.
This is according to a post by the Hunters Search and Rescue Team which says this was confirmed by Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation Kenwyn Phillip.
He also noted that a plan was developed to address the situation.
Lignite is a low-grade form of coal and, according to geologist Xavier Moonan, sulphuric gases released during its combustion are negatively affecting families in the vicinity of the recreation ground.
