The Guanapo Landfill is closed today due to a fire.

SWMCOL says the blaze began on Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the active tipping area.

Due to the nature and location of the fire, the decision was made to keep the site closed today.

Information was also shared with the Arima Disaster Management Unit to have all waste haulers who utilize the site be redirected to other landfills.

SWMCOL says its Emergency Management Team is working to extinguish the fire.

It is m advising persons within the fence line communities who may have respiratory conditions to proceed with caution as there is a consistent level of smoke currently emanating from the site.
