From this year, Emancipation Day in T&T will be known as African Emancipation Day.

This declaration came today from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who told today’s post-cabinet news briefing, that some have been trying to co-opt the day.

He says the move to adopt the name African Emancipation Day was a cabinet decision.

Meanwhile on another matter, Dr Rowley responded to concerns regarding a decision by the US to reimpose sanctions on Venezuela.

Dr Rowley says there are some things in place that will not be directly affected, but admits that there is no guarantee of impact in the future.

The reinstatement of sanctions came as the US felt Venezuela’s government had failed to allow “an inclusive and competitive election” to take place.
