2030 World Cup matches to be held in 6 countries

Matches for the 2030 men’s World Cup will be played in six countries on three different continents.

FIFA says its Council unanimously agreed that Spain, Portugal and Morocco will co-host the tournament.

Additionally, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will stage opening matches to mark 100 years since the first World Cup was held.

A unique centenary celebration ceremony will also be held in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo, where the first ever World Cup took place in 1930.

The 1930 tournament was won by Uruguay.

Regarding the decision, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, “In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting. In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup.”

Today as well, FIFA launched the bidding process for the 2034 World Cup.

According to ESPN FC, Saudi Arabia has already officially announced its bid to host that tournament.
