The West Indies Players’ Association has commended West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews on being designated Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World for 2023.

Matthews copped the award for an outstanding eight consecutive T20I Player of the Match awards, as well as 1,551 T20 runs (international and domestic) and 57 wickets.

WIPA says a highlight of the year was her brilliant showing against Australia, where she blazed 132 from 64 balls in a run-chase of 213.

This resulted in the highest ever successful run-chase in women’s T20Is.

It reminds that Matthews also captained the winning team for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League and was part of the winning team for India’s Women’s Premier League.

She is the first female winner of the Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer in the World award.
