WASA Update on Caroni WTP Shutdown

WASA says works undertaken during its planned shutdown of the Caroni Water Treatment Plant are progressing as scheduled.

According to a statement, as at 5pm today the works were approximately 80% completed.

It adds that key jobs have already been completed including the installation of a new transformer at the Plant’s intake, as well as the installation of valves and meters at several locations along the North and South transmission/ distribution system.

The Authority also admits that today’s inclement weather caused a delay in the progress of works to install a new bulk meter at the El Socorro Booster Station.

Despite this, it expects to remain on course to complete the full schedule of works by noon tomorrow, as expected.

WASA says following the restart of the Plant, the supply to most affected areas is expected to be restored over a 24 to 48 hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.

It adds however that some customers at the extremities of the distribution system, particularly at the furthest areas in South Trinidad, may experience longer delays in having their service restored.
