Now that the ban on the use of hoses is in effect, WASA says its officers have the power to enter premises to ensure water isn’t being wasted.

The authority says upon the production of authenticated documents, “authorized officers of the Authority have the general power to enter any premises supplied with water at all reasonable hours in order to examine if there is any waste or misuse of such water.”

“Any person who breaches this prohibition is liable to a fine upon summary conviction.”

Other than the use of hoses and water apparatus for watering gardens and washing motor vehicles there are other restrictions to be followed under the law.

This includes customers keeping water fittings in good condition to ensure water isn’t being wasted, unduly consumed or contaminated before use.

Also, customers cannot allow other persons to take water from their premises to use at another site.

Persons are not allowed to take or divert water from a reservoir, water course, conduit, pipe or other apparatus belonging to WASA.

WASA says there will be increased patrols by its officers to ensure compliance with this hose ban, which lasts until June 30th.
